The Yellow House will be the new headquarters of the Tourist Board

The Cabildo of Lanzarote will intervene in the building known as Casa Amarilla, located on Calle Real in Arrecife, for use as the new headquarters of the Tourism Board. The intention of the person in charge of this area, María José Docal, is to have public service offices that are visible and close to the commercial and historical area of the city.

Thus, according to the Cabildo, a restoration project has been designed to allow a "comfortable and functional use of the facilities while maintaining the cultural and heritage values of the property".

In this sense, the Island Heritage Commission, chaired by Manuela Armas, approved on Tuesday morning the project prepared by the architect Domingo Suárez, with a series of technical conditions raised by the Heritage area of the Corporation.

This department has noted in its considerations the humidity problems that cause the degradation of plaster and ceramic pieces; the possibility of ordering enough tiles to guarantee future replacements; the restoration of the wooden structure that houses the bell and the importance of using bathroom and flooring materials that are up to the relevance of the Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).

The property that housed the Island Corporation between 1930 and 1997 was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest at the request of the Cabildo in 2002. After the inauguration of the new building on Fred Olsen Avenue, the Casa Amarilla housed the Education and Culture and Historical Heritage departments, which this year have moved to the current headquarters.

The Casa Amarilla, named for the color of the beveled tiles that cover its facade, dates from 1930. It is the first building built in Lanzarote with an official and public purpose and function.
