The blue flag is withdrawn from the four beaches of Tías that had this award

The association that awards these distinctions carried out an inspection in July and confirmed that the requirements were not met, although the City Council hopes to recover them.

Blue flag withdrawn from the four beaches of Tías that had this award

The municipality of Tías has lost the four blue flags it had as a result of the last inspection carried out on July 8 by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer (Adeac), which is the one that awards these awards.

According to the City Council, in that inspection "deficiencies were detected that prevent compliance with the blue flag criteria" on the beaches of Matagorda, Los Pocillos, Playa Grande and Pila de la Barrilla (Playa Chica), so it has announced that "it will soon temporarily remove" these badges.

However, the government group assures that this is a temporary measure and affirm that they have been in contact with Adeac for "months" "to be able to reverse this provisional withdrawal of the award as soon as possible".

Regarding the breaches, they assure that "they do not pose any risk to the users of the beaches of the municipality of Tías" and specify that "some of them are related to signage, environmental education activities and adaptation of the beach bathrooms".

The awards granted in this edition were announced at the beginning of last May, when it was reported that Lanzarote had received seven blue flags for its beaches. However, after the loss of these four flags in Tías, only those of Las Cucharas and El Jablillo, in Costa Teguise, and that of El Reducto beach in Arrecife remain.
