The avenue of Puerto del Carmen was filled with supportive hearts to support the fight against cancer in the Race Together for Life

The avenue of Puerto del Carmen was filled this Saturday, September 21, with supportive hearts who wanted to show their support for cancer patients and their families. The first edition of the Race Together for Life achieved nearly 300 participants, a great achievement in this first walk and race organized on the island to support AFOL, the Association of Families and Oncohematological Patients of Lanzarote.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the president of AFOL, Carmen Abrocha, and Sandra Ibarra, whose Foundation joined this initiative, started the race shortly after 10:30 am in the Plaza de El Varadero, in La Tiñosa. All attendees, who participated in the walking and running modalities, traveled a distance of 5 kilometers to reach the finish line located next to the Plaza de Las Naciones, in Playa de Los Pocillos.

Among the participants who ran were the Councilor for Social Welfare of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Marciano Acuña, and the councilors of Tourism of Tías, Nerea Santana; of Economy and Finance, Ramón Melián; of Education, Seniors and Human Resources, Aroa Pérez, the one of Sports and Festivities, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancor; as well as other councilors from different political groups in Tías and other municipalities of the Island.

The race included a group of children and adults with disabilities belonging to the TriWWW Association, who wanted to join this race. These children were invited to participate in the awards ceremony together with the authorities. The oldest person who registered was 80 years old and completed the entire race at a good pace.

The race was won, in the general classification, by Jorge Torres Torres with a time of 17:13.

By categories, Viña Cabrera, Lourdes, won the classification in the elite female category with a time of 23:59
