The Arrecife City Council has decreed the lifting of the seal on the Hela pet crematorium, the only one on the island. In a notification, signed this Monday, June 5 by the Secretariat of the council, the order to close the activity that had been on the premises since October 28, 2022 was withdrawn.
For eight months, Lanzarote and La Graciosa did not have a crematorium in which to take their pets once they died, since there is no alternative available, public or private, to Hela.
"If everything goes well with the preparations, tomorrow" the reopening of this place is planned, its owner Juan Reguilón advances in statements to La Voz.
The reasons given in the sanctioning file concluded by the capital's council insisted that the businessman did not deliver the technical project that was required by the Arrecife City Council on two occasions. However, the administrator of Reguimir insisted on being up to date with all the documentation.
"We thank the City Council once again for reconsidering our situation and making this fair decision. We value their trust in our ability to rectify and comply with the established requirements," reveals the statement issued on behalf of the Hela pet crematorium.
"During these difficult months, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our operations comply with current regulations and standards," Hela says in its statement after learning of the news.
Regarding the effects that this closure may have had on the "reputation" of the center, the company defends that they are "fully committed to restoring our position. Our priority has always been and always will be the well-being and respect for pets and their owners."
Lawsuit against two councilors and a technician
Last May, the administrator of the entity Reguimir filed a lawsuit against the councilors of Coalición Canaria Echedey Eugenio and Maciot Cabrera, as well as against the municipal technician Pilar Machín for an alleged crime of prevarication.
"The existence of a fraudulent action is manifestly proven since that result was desired and that will was put before any other consideration," the entity stated at the time.
Regarding the future of the company, Hela reveals that "now that we have overcome this challenge, we are proud to say that we are stronger and more determined than ever to continue providing a necessary service, characterized by our professionalism, empathy and unwavering dedication."
"From the Hela pet crematorium, we are committed to moving forward with integrity and respect, and to honoring the trust placed in us. Together, we will rebuild our prestige and continue to provide the pet cremation service that was distinguished by its excellence and its focus on the needs of each family," the entity concluded.
