The Teguise City Council is not giving up on celebrating the next Carnival, at least through social networks, and this Monday it has even announced a contest to choose the poster for the festivities, under the slogan "The illusion of a Carnival". Those interested will have until February 10 to submit their works and the winner will receive a prize of 300 euros.
In addition, the Department of Festivities of the Teguise City Council, coordinated by Nori Machín, also intends to hold a "Virtual Murga Contest", for which the participating groups will have from February 1 to 14 to send a video of between 3 and 5 minutes, which will then be evaluated by a jury linked to the world of culture, which will award two prizes of 400 and 200 euros based on the best lyrics and music. However, it should be remembered that with the current restrictions in force in Lanzarote, meetings are prohibited and therefore there can be no rehearsals of the groups.
As for the troupes, the proposal of the City Council is to choose the best staging of performances from previous years, through a popular vote on the municipal website. The economic amount for the winners will be 300 and 150 euros for the two most voted groups.
"What the council intends with these actions is to give some light and visibility to the Carnival despite everything, while contributing to all those associations that live exclusively from these parties continue to maintain the illusion,” said the Councilor for Festivities, Nori Machín.
Also, from February 15 you can enjoy in the Convent of Santo Domingo the exhibition "30 years of history of the Carnival of Teguise", in which you will have to contribute a kilo of non-perishable food as an entrance fee; and also in the Casa-Museo del Timple will be installed the exhibition of photos of all editions of the Traditional Carnival.
Pet Contest “Cannaval”
In the Carnival of Teguise there will also be room for pets, in a new and special edition of "Cannaval", a contest that has been held for several editions and that this time will also be developed using new technologies.
Participants will have to send a video or a photo of their animal individually, as a couple or in a group, in some outdoor space of the municipality, which in turn may be accompanied by the owner also dressed for the occasion.
They will have from the 8th to the 14th of February to send the works to the email información.cultura@teguise.es. The jury will award three prizes of 75, 100 and 150 euros to the best fantasy.
From the Department of Animal Welfare of Teguise, led by Councilor Sara Bermúdez, they emphasize that "this is an opportunity to value all the good things that having a pet brings and that they have their moment of prominence in these parties, in addition to highlighting the beauty of our municipality.”
Also, through the volunteer group will also participate the dogs that are in the Municipal Shelter for Abandoned Animals, as an action to promote adoptions "and so together collaborate to find a home,” added the councilor.
