Teguise posthumously honors the veterinarian of La Villa, José Torres Esteban

Teguise has paid a posthumous tribute to José Torres Esteban, who worked as a veterinarian in La Villa for 30 years. The event, which was held this Wednesday at the Convent of Santo Domingo, consisted of a poetic musical evening under the title "Ese Hondo Sentir".

Pilar Cáceres, José Torres' widow, offered a recital of her own poems and elaborated on many anecdotes from the life she led on the island of Lanzarote with her husband. The honoree's daughter, soprano Lorena Torres Cáceres, accompanied on piano by José Paz, delighted the audience with a repertoire of lyrical songs.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, acknowledged the work and professional career of José Torres, who developed his professional career as a veterinarian in Lanzarote, "where he arrived after passing some tough state examinations, at a time when the island's health deficiencies made this type of professional indispensable", according to the Teguise City Council. Therefore, the honoree was a veterinarian for Haría, Tinajo, Teguise and La Graciosa. In addition, due to his links with the army, he was also the military veterinarian of the Lanzarote battalion.

He settled in the Lanzarote municipality in 1965

José Torres Esteban, after meeting Pilar and marrying her in 1965, settled in Teguise, where he built his house and created his family. He also established his practice for small animals there, where numerous people arrived every day seeking help for their pets.

At the meeting, held within the Fiestas del Carmen, many friends of José, colleagues from the Coral de San Ginés, army colleagues and town residents gathered, who shared a very emotional journey through the life of this Teguise veterinarian with Pilar Cáceres.
