The Guagime folklore group celebrated the V Folklore Festival on the occasion of the patron saint festivities of Santiago Apóstol and Santa Ana in the town of Tahíche.
The event took place last Friday, July 18, at the facilities of the C.S.C. Santiago El Mayor, with Coros y Danzas Arrecife as guests for this edition.
Coros y danzas de Arrecife began the festival with seguidillas airs followed by folías, isas, sorondongo and malagueña. As usual every time they go on stage, their verses stand out with voices deeply rooted in Lanzarote and the choreography of their dances, authentic moving toys where their elegance is revealed.
In second place was the Aguaribay folklore group, who came from the Taco neighborhood in Tenerife. It was the first time they performed in Lanzarote. They were born in 1993 and since then they have participated in different festivals and pilgrimages on the island of Tenerife. In addition, in these 21 years they have already recorded an album that bears the name of the group. Aguaribay was characterized by the variety of its dances, all of them inspired by the most traditional and representative of the folklore of the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro, highlighting their very well combined voices.
The third place was for the organizers, the Guagime folklore group, which in addition to celebrating the V Festival is celebrating the X Anniversary of its foundation. The Guagime family displayed a varied selection with the most traditional of our folklore, including some dances from other islands of the Canary archipelago.
Before finishing, recognition was given to Juliana Delgado Pérez, artisan weaver from the town of Tahíche, who the Guagime family distinguished with their highest award "The Silver Insignia" for her contribution to keeping the tradition of the artisan loom alive. With airs of malagueña, Guagime put the finishing touch to this V edition of its festival.
