Six health centers in Lanzarote join the "humanization" initiative for birth and breastfeeding

Titerroy, Valterra, San Bartolomé, Costa Teguise, Playa Honda and Playa Blanca exceed the requirements of the first phase for the IHAN program accreditation

The health centers of Titerroy, Valterra, San Bartolomé, Costa Teguise, Playa Honda and Playa Blanca have exceeded the requirements for accreditation of phase 1D of the IHAN Program, Initiative for the Humanization of Assistance to Childbirth and Breastfeeding. Thus, the process begins to be recognized as "centers committed to the humanization and improvement of their practices in the care of breastfeeding and maternal and child health".

From the Ministry of Health they point out that, aware of the importance that Primary Care has in the maintenance and support of breastfeeding, the teams of these health centers in Lanzarote have been working for some time according to the IHAN criteria. An initiative promoted by the WHO and UNICEF with the aim of "promoting and supporting the best start in life, ensuring optimal practices in the care of pregnancy, childbirth, the neonatal period and, especially, breastfeeding".

The Primary Care teams of Lanzarote have five breastfeeding groups that support and promote it from birth, while helping pregnant and lactating mothers to resolve any doubts that may arise in the process. Currently, the Ministry of Health points out that the six accredited health centers are working on the joint initiative "to advance in the implementation of the strategy and achieve accreditation of Phase 2D in a short space of time".

In addition, a training plan in breastfeeding is carried out among the professionals of the health centers in the areas of Medicine, Nursing, midwives and Nursing assistants, as well as technical personnel and administrative assistants, who have committed to "continue delving into this line of work that pursues quality in the care of mothers and their babies".

The Ministry of Health adds that the Primary Care Directorate of the Lanzarote Health Area values ​​the IHAN accreditation of the health centers and "recognizes the work and dedication of the professionals involved who are committed to supporting and promoting the necessary changes in this process". Likewise, they recall "the importance of the joint accreditation of the same", given that they share the documentation prepared in a consensual manner in terms of regulations, protocols, educational material, training plan and programs.
