The needs of Cáritas and Calor y Café for their social canteens have been increasing and every day there are more users of these facilities, given the current crisis situation and economic situation that many families in Lanzarote are going through.

For this reason, Rotary Club Lanzarote, with the important help of the restaurants grouped in Aetur and the hotels grouped in Asolan, commit to guaranteeing the supply of food and meals that are offered every day in the social canteens of Lanzarote managed by Cáritas.

Cáritas Lanzarote will focus its activity on the new social canteen on La Palma street, conditioned and equipped in recent months by the Rotarians of Lanzarote with an investment of close to 9,000 euros. The facilities, next to the church of San Ginés, have been moved to this canteen in the Valterra and El Charco area, which has been operating for a few weeks.

Every day an isothermal vehicle acquired for this purpose will transfer to the Cáritas canteen, from the restaurants and hotels of the Island, the same menu that is offered in these hotel and tourist centers. Several hotel and tourism companies have joined this solidarity initiative that will selflessly provide these foods and menus on a rotating basis. Cáritas, in addition to the social canteen, will distribute food among those families who need it and do not attend the canteen.

This new plan, promoted by the members of Rotary Club Lanzarote, joins the aid and other menus that have been supplied in recent times to the Calor y Café canteen, supervised by Sor Ana who, jointly with Cáritas, offers dinners.

Cáritas Canteen

Cáritas Lanzarote, for this canteen and shelter service, has 8 workers and 40 volunteers, and a special vehicle acquired.

This Saturday, December 18, this canteen and solidarity meal services will be presented at the facilities of the Cáritas social canteen in Lanzarote, at Calle La Palma number 12, in Arrecife, in an event that will be attended by the president of Cáritas Lanzarote, Eduardo Barreto, the president of Rotary Club Lanzarote, Marcial Cabrera Lemes, the president of Aetur, Victoriano Elvira, and the spokesperson for Asolan, Francisco Martínez. The governor of Rotary International for Spain, Emilio Ruiz Jarabo, and the coordinator of Rotary International for Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands and Spain, Severino Betancort from Lanzarote, will also be present at this event.

Aids

The Rotarians of Lanzarote, since the creation of the Rotary Club on the island in 1992, have offered their solidarity aid to different groups and associations on the Island. Among other actions, they have awarded scholarships to several young people in their higher education and have allowed some families to rebuild their lives, among other initiatives.

AFA, the Association of Relatives and Sufferers of Alzheimer's, has received about 50,000 euros from Rotary for its Day Center. The users of Adislan, the Lanzarote Center for the Disabled, have been able to have a therapeutic pool and gymnastics. Afacoda, the Association of Families Fighting Against Drugs, has received a donation of a 9-seater minibus for the transfers of these young people in the detoxification process. Mararía, for its part, has had different aids for its workshops and equipment for its headquarters, which allows it to provide assistance to women at risk. Likewise, diabetic children in Lanzarote have been able to enjoy different camps financed by Rotary. The nursery of the Zonzamas Day Center for the rehabilitation of drug addicts has also been donated and set up by Rotary Club.

In recent years, the 33 members of Rotary Club Lanzarote, a philanthropic and solidarity entity made up of prominent businessmen and professionals from the Island, have reinforced their humanitarian aid to Cáritas and Calor y Café to collaborate and contribute to the important services offered by the volunteers and workers of these NGOs, "which make it possible for the homeless or people in trouble to have their food guaranteed every day and night".
