Protest at the gates of the Tahíche prison: "We have not seen our relatives since December"

Relatives of the prisoners describe the situation experienced by the inmates in module 3 as "third world"

Protest at the prison gates

Eight relatives of the prisoners of the Tahiche prison demonstrated this Wednesday at the doors of the penitentiary center, denouncing the "abandonment" that they consider the inmates of module 3, destined for the most conflictive inmates, suffer. "We have not seen our relatives since December," says the partner of one of them.

"Justice corrects, it does not punish." "The bars will not silence the truth." "For a more humane treatment". These are some of the banners they showed as a sign of protest. In addition to the months they have been without seeing their relatives, they also criticize other facts, such as that in the center the inmates "have to buy water", something that according to the partner of one of the prisoners, "does not happen in the rest of the prisons."

Likewise, these relatives question that there are prisoners with "worse sentences" who are in other modules of the penitentiary center, in which they have the right to "activities" and the "assistance of psychologists", something that they say does not happen in module 3.

"In module 3 they have them abandoned. The prisoners request a doctor and maybe they see him after fifteen days," criticizes the partner of one of them, who adds that they "do not see" the psychiatrist and the educator of the center either.

"It is third world how they treat them," they said this Wednesday at the concentration, in which they have requested "urgent" measures "to safeguard the rights of the inmates."
