The first session of the training program will begin at the Argana Sociocultural Center and will take place this Wednesday, November 23.

"Localizing health" in Argana Alta

The Primary Care Directorate of the Management of Sanitary Services of the Health Area of Lanzarote, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, launches the project 'Localizing health', a community program that is committed to improving health and its social determinants. This initiative is aimed at the entire population, although it will initially be piloted in the capital neighborhood of Argana.

Within the project, and in collaboration with public entities and associations, various workshops will be carried out by a multidisciplinary team made up of professionals from Medicine, Nursing and Psychology, who will work together with pediatricians, physiotherapists and social workers. The workshops, aimed at different sectors of the population, will be held in four spaces in the neighborhood: the CEO of Argana, the Sociocultural Center, the CEIP of Argana and the association 'La Vida es Zuhaina'.

The first of these sessions will begin at the Argana Sociocultural Center and will take place this Wednesday, November 23. Under the title 'Know your resources', this workshop aims to bring the services offered by health centers closer to the residents of the neighborhood. This same week there will also be a workshop focused on self-care, a session in which, with the help of a physiotherapist, how to deal with pain in an active way is addressed.

Another of the community health activities that is part of the program focuses on the figure of the Advance Statements of Will. To this end, a nurse from the Canary Health Service will offer the conference 'What is important to me at the end of life?' and raises the possibility of making that document to the public. Socio-health resources and disability and dependency procedures will occupy another of the sessions that will be given by a Social Worker from Primary Care.

Mental Health and drug use

This project developed from Primary Care also focuses its attention on young people and adolescents. For them, two workshops will be held at the CEO Argana: one in which Mental Health, drug use and the risk of their consumption and abuse are addressed, and another on initiation to yoga.

Finally, another of the program's actions is aimed at the parents of the Argana Alta Public School. This is a Pediatrics workshop in which doubts about accompaniment and parenting in early childhood will be addressed.

The project managers assure that the main objective is to form a local health network that promotes and facilitates the improvement of health and the quality of life of the population and the environments of the municipality. At the same time, it also seeks to give greater visibility to health actions and promote and strengthen alliances with different sectors of the municipality and, especially, with citizens.
