Playa Honda said goodbye to its festivities this Sunday, after a weekend full of activities and marked by good weather and neighborhood participation. On Friday, the planned program began with dancing at the Municipal Center for the Elderly, with the elderly enjoying the sound of good music. At the same time, a wrestling match was held between Playa Honda and San Bartolomé in the youth category.
Next, music and dance took center stage, with the best of the Al-Andalus repertoire between Alisios and Levante, followed by a dance performance by the Samira Rif School. The evening concluded with one of the highlights of the festivities, the VI Hondarock Festival, in which the youngest and rockiest audience enjoyed the good music of Los Verbenas, G-noma and Cumbia Ebria, on the Guacimeta Esplanade.
The I Canine Catwalk "any breed is good" was the opening act of Saturday's festive day, in which a total of 14 dogs participated, accompanied by their owners. The award for best dog-owner couple went to number 9, Nublo, accompanied by Idafe Ramírez Sánchez; the award for best skill and juggling went to number 16, Coca; the award for best baby went to number 15, Manchita; the award for the most handsome and glamorous went to number 11, Alfi; the award for the most fun and friendly went to number 12, Nemo; and finally the best grandfather went to number 13, Blue.
Percussion, dance and horse racing
On Saturday at noon there was a workshop on percussion and African dance, continuing in the afternoon with the performance of the municipal band on Avenida de Playa Honda, to give way to one of the events that brings together the most public this celebration: the horse race organized by the Caldera Honda Equestrian Club, in which six horses participated. In total, three races were held, which were followed by the large audience concentrated along the entire avenue. The little ones had a pony show.
The night continued with the concert by Dulumba Hermanos Thioune, on the Avenue, at the height of the Marilyn and subsequent popular verbena, by Kimera Band and dj on the Explanada de Guacimeta.
On Sunday, the last day of the festivities, the planned program came to an end with a parade with giants and big heads and music by the Hermanos Thioune group, the Charanga Nomes13 and the Batucada Bentchey, encouraging their passage throughout the avenue. The youngest members of the house were able to enjoy the foam party.
From 1:00 p.m., the events reached their final stretch with the performance of the verseador Yeray Rodríguez, who put his note of humor through the Cuban points and the Pal-Porrón parranda was in charge of closing the end-of-summer festivities in Playa Honda with folk music.
