The people of Playa Blanca took to the streets this Wednesday to honor the patron saint of fishermen, the Virgen del Carmen. In the front row and together with family members, former fishermen from Playa Blanca participated in this tour. With the ringing of the bells, the image of the Virgin left the church to cheers and applause.
Before the pilgrimage, there was a moment of prayer to remember the members of the Playa Blanca community who have passed away, to ask for health for work and to give thanks for life. Foreigners and people from other regions of Spain joined in the prayer. The Yaiza Vocal Group sang the songs during the celebration of the Eucharist.
The procession, under the chords of the Yaiza Municipal Band, walked through the central streets of Playa Blanca, incorporating residents who chose to join from the passage through their homes. The vice president of the Island Council, Joaquín Caraballo, and the senator for Lanzarote, Óscar Luzardo, among other representatives of public institutions, accompanied the mayor Gladys Acuña and councilors of the municipality of Yaiza.
The procession arrived at Avenida Papagayo in the middle of the public crowded on both sides of the road and concluded in Plaza del Carmen, where the music and dance body of the Rubicón Folk Group was waiting. The town and visitors enjoyed the performance before the Virgin's return to the church. The procession concluded as it began, with a prayer and a round of applause.
After the central act of the Big Day, there was a gala in the port area, led by the comedian Dani Calero, who once again won over the public with stories and jokes. Víctor Lemes performed, with songs mocking current affairs, Foncho, Nakor, Natalia Palacio, accompanied by the pianist Alexis Canciano, and the Tenerife revelation of singing, the very young Sislenia Caparosa.
