Around 40 people gathered on Monday at the gates of the IES of Costa Teguise to demand the opening of the pavilion so that the children of this town can enjoy sports activities in the afternoon, after school hours. Parents, children and several sports associations from Costa Teguise, as well as the "Cancheando" association, came to this Institute.
"We all meet for the common good of the children of Costa Teguise. It is a very large population and has no sports center. There is no one to organize activities," said the president of the AMPA of the Institute and the school, Blanca Torres. "I don't understand why we are not using such a good pavilion. We don't have a single team from Costa Teguise and that is very sad. We want our children to have roots in Costa Teguise," she defended.
This same Monday, a meeting took place with the Councilor for Sports of the Teguise City Council, Echedey Eugenio, who "promised to open" the pavilion for two days and the rest to be done by the AMPA. "It's more or less something. There is also a willingness from the Ministry of Education, but we are already halfway through October and the children have already looked for activities in Tahíche or Arrecife. It is not right that they have nothing in Costa Teguise," he insisted.
The PP sent a press release criticizing the government group of Teguise for this matter and for not having been "able" to sign an agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands so that this facility can be used by children and young people of the town in non-school hours. Echedey Eugenio responded and assured that this agreement already existed since 2012, but it was not being applied in Costa Teguise, because the AMPA had not complied with the necessary procedures, including the hiring of insurance. However, Torres has assured that they do have it. "It expires now at the end of October, but it is renewed for next year," she explained.
For all these reasons, parents, students and sports associations demanded with a concentration the opening of the pavilion of the IES Costa Teguise so that the children of the town do not have to travel to another place to practice sports activities.
