Papagayo has been chosen by the ABC newspaper as one of the ten best beaches in Spain. In the report, entitled "The ten best Spanish beaches", the journalist Rubén Cañizares assures that you don't have to go all the way to the Caribbean, since our country has enchanted sands and turquoise waters that match the best tropical paradise." And to prove it, he includes "ten Spanish wonders of nature based on sand and water (?) in a country with 638 blue flags and the best beaches in the northern hemisphere."
Bolonia, Rodas, Covacos, Castro de Baroña, Granadella, Monsul, Zahara de los Atunes, Caballería, Cala Salada and Papagayo are the names of these beaches.
After making a brief and detailed tour of each of them, he refers to Papagayo beach as "an island jewel on the beautiful island of Lanzarote, just a few minutes from the Los Ajaches Natural Monument." In his article, he points out that this beach "stands out for the contrast between its fine, golden sand and the turquoise color of its water, as well as for the volcanic rock formations that delimit it. On the horizon, Fuerteventura and the enigmatic Isla de Lobos appear before our eyes, forming a very peculiar landscape."
