One of Lanzarote's beaches loses the blue flag

The island is left with six and a marina. This initiative distinguishes the spaces that meet criteria of excellence in water quality, comply with environmental regulations and have sanitary infrastructure

The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has reported this Tuesday the obtaining of sixty Blue Flag awards in the 2024 edition for the entire archipelago. Of these, fifty-six correspond to beaches and four to marinas. Meanwhile, in the case of Lanzarote, six blue flags and a marina have been distributed.

For this year, Lanzarote loses a Blue Flag on Grande beach in Puerto del Carmen. Meanwhile, it maintains one in El Reducto in Arrecife, Las Cucharas in Teguise, Matagorda, Pila de la Barrilla (or Chica beach) in Tías and Playa Blanca in Yaiza. To this is added the Marina Puerto Calero marina in Yaiza.

In the Canary Islands, the Blue Flag initiative is managed with the collaboration of the Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate of Public Health of the Canary Islands Health Service. Thus, it distinguishes those beaches and marinas that meet the criteria of excellence in the quality of bathing water, comply with environmental regulations, and have adequate health and safety infrastructure to guarantee the health and safety of their users.

Blue Flag is an annual award and an environmental quality certification system developed by the FEE (Federation of Environmental Education) for more than thirty years. In Spain, ADEAC (Association of Environmental and Consumer Education) coordinates this initiative.
