The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has received a rating of 8.84 points out of 10 from patients admitted in 2024 in the Hospital Discharge Satisfaction Survey (ESAH), which is carried out annually by the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS).
The objective of this survey is to measure the perceived quality of healthcare activity and to know the satisfaction of patients during their admission to the Hospital.
The ESAH results highlight the positive assessment received by the Traumatology and Onco-Cardio-Hematology units, which obtain 9.26 and 9.19 points, respectively, from users.
Regarding services, Hematology, with a score of 9.80, is the best rated, followed by Traumatology, which receives 9.25 points from the patients surveyed.
The ESAH for the year 2024 was carried out on a sample in which 417 patients participated, of which 54 percent were women and 46 percent were men. The largest number of people who participated in the sample are in the age group between 50 and 69 years old.
63.3% of the people surveyed were admitted through the emergency room and 63.6 percent remained admitted for less than five days. Of the total number of surveys carried out by users, thirty were in English and three in German.
Outstanding staff attention
The ESAH data reflect that patients discharged from the Molina Orosa Hospital during the past year positively value the care received. In this sense, medical care is considered good or very good by 98.8 percent of those surveyed, and 99.5 percent rate nursing care in the same way.
Likewise, the treatment by the hospital's orderlies is considered very positive by 99.2 percent of the patients, and 98 percent of those surveyed rate the treatment by the administrative staff as good or very good.
The survey data show a good assessment by users of aspects related to their stay in the center, such as noise or cleanliness of the rooms, which satisfies 90.4 and 93.5%, respectively.
The assessment of patients regarding respect for their privacy during hospital admission stands out. 99 percent of the people interviewed say they felt respected by the staff. On the other hand, more than 97% of patients positively rate that the staff on the ward address them by their name.
Regarding the signage of the center, 89.46% of users say that it has been easy for them to orient themselves in the hospital facilities.
Information and support
Another variable that improves is patient information. 97.5% say they are very satisfied with the information provided on the evolution of their disease; an even higher percentage, 98.2, indicate that they were informed and asked for their consent before undergoing any test or intervention, and the vast majority of those surveyed, 95.6%, rate the information on the care and treatment they should follow at home as adequate.
The time for family visits satisfies 98.1 percent of those admitted, a percentage that in the pediatric ward reaches 100 percent of patients, who positively valued the time they have spent with their children.
Obstetrics, high satisfaction
Of particular relevance within the ESAH is the care in the delivery room, where 100% of the women attended at the Molina Orosa during 2024 rated the care they received during childbirth as good or very good.
93.3 percent of those surveyed agree in pointing out that they were informed of the benefits of breastfeeding during their stay in the hospital and 97.8 percent say they received information about newborn care.
