Migrant care is moved from the Commercial pier to the Puerto Naos pier

CECOES defends that this decision is due to a "better location, a more private area, less exposed"

From this moment on, the Maritime Rescue ships that were disembarking at the Arrecife Commercial pier will now disembark at the Puerto Naos pier.

The reason for this change is due to a request presented "months ago" by the Cabildo of Lanzarote. As announced by the manager of the Emergency Coordination Center (CECOES), Enrique Espinosa, this decision is due to a "better location, a more private area, less exposed. The other was an area where it is seen throughout the municipality and it was not acceptable, they have the right to privacy. It is for better care for immigrants."

Likewise, the new location is closer to the National Police station and the Temporary Foreigner Attention Center (CATE) of Lanzarote.

So far this year, a total of 73 precarious boats have landed at the Commercial pier. Lanzarote continues to be the Canary Island with the most arrivals of immigrants arriving to the archipelago from the African continent through the Canary route. In total, during the first six months of 2023, 3,250 people have been transferred to the Arrecife Commercial pier who have been rescued by Salvamar.
