Maritime Rescue rescues five new boats near the coast of Lanzarote

About 245 people, including women and children, were traveling in the boats

The arrival of boats from Africa to the coasts of Lanzarote continues. During the early hours of this Sunday, Maritime Rescue has rescued five boats with about 245 people on board, according to the Emergency Consortium.

At approximately 10:25 p.m., the Guardamar Polimnia rescued a blue wooden boat north of the island, carrying 47 men, one woman, and a dog, all in apparent good health. The boat was detected by the sailboat 'Imi Makani'.

The second was intercepted at approximately 2:38 a.m., 7 miles east of Costa Teguise. The inflatable boat carried 48 immigrants, 39 men, 8 women, and one minor, of sub-Saharan origin and in apparent good health.

Subsequently, at approximately 4:52 a.m., an inflatable boat was intercepted with 53 immigrants, including three women, one of whom was pregnant. All are of sub-Saharan origin and in apparent good health.

 

Two hours later, the Salvamar Al Nair rescued another boat 8 miles east of the island with 45 migrants, 41 men, three women, and one minor, of sub-Saharan and Maghrebi origin and in apparent good health.

And lastly, at 8 a.m. this Sunday, the Salvamar Al Nair rescued another inflatable boat 10 miles east of the island with 35 people on board, 29 men, 3 minors, and three women, of Maghrebi origin, and in apparent good health.

Once assisted by the Red Cross, four transfers have been made to the Molina Orosa Hospital for different pathologies.

At the moment, the CETI is saturated, more beds are being installed in the facilities, and new referrals are expected to be authorized shortly.
