The social and cultural association of Women in Lanzarote (Mararía) presented this Friday at a press conference the collective pictorial exhibition "One day yes and another also" in which, selflessly, four renowned artists have participated to commemorate the upcoming March 8, International Women's Day.
The exhibition by Margarita Amat, Rosa Vera, Elisa Betancort and Ana Silvia Larrea is sponsored by the Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council and the Department of Culture of the Island Council of Lanzarote, and will be inaugurated on March 9, being exhibited in the courtyard of the El Almacén hall until March 20.
In addition, different schools and institutes of the Island will visit the exhibition.
According to Nieves Rosa Hernández, president of Mararía, the exhibition aims to show, through different artistic techniques, "different perspectives of women, of which this time not only a critical vision is wanted to be demonstrated but above all committed to their reality".
"It is no longer art only as something intimate, but as a commitment to the public and to the reality that women live in this century, bearing on their shoulders the greatest weight of scourges such as unemployment, poverty, family burdens, ..."
At the same time, this initiative does not fail to "claim the cultural dimension of women, something essential to project themselves into the future".
This is the highlight of the events planned for December 8, in a set of events in which there will be the delivery of ribbons on Calle Real or the traditional island meeting of women in Lanzarote. Mararía will present the official program of events in a few days.
