Manuel Reyes Fontes, former Justice of the Peace of Tías for three decades, dies

He is the father of the current PSOE councilor and general secretary of UGT in Lanzarote, César Reyes

Manuel Reyes Fontes, who was a Justice of the Peace in Tías for three decades, has passed away.

The Tías Town Council has publicly expressed its condolences for the death of the former Justice of the Peace in the municipality, Manuel Reyes Fontes, who is also the father of the current PSOE councilor in the Town Council and general secretary of UGT in Lanzarote, César Reyes. 

Manuel Reyes Fontes, born in Tías in 1935, served as president of Unión Sur Tías during the years 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1968, and was also a councilor in the Tías Town Council, in the pre-democratic era, between 1966 and 1979. In 1981 he was appointed Justice of the Peace of the municipality. For almost 42 years he carried out tasks related to the municipal Justice of the Peace, 12 as a substitute prosecutor, and almost 30 as head of the Tías Justice of the Peace Court, according to the Town Council. 

At the request of the Tías Town Council, he was awarded the Gold Medal of Merit for Justice of the Order of San Raimundo de Peñafort after his time as Justice of the Peace of the municipality, a distinction he received in June 2012. 

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, on behalf of the Municipal Corporation and the workers, has conveyed his condolences to the family and friends, especially to his children Esther, Plácido and César.

For her part, the general secretary of the PSOE of Tías, Kalinda Pérez, has also conveyed her condolences and those of her party for the death of Manuel Reyes Fontes, father of the party's spokesperson in that Town Council. The socialist leader has expressed her sorrow "for the loss of an exemplary neighbor, responsible to his community, who, among other responsibilities, served as councilor in our Town Council and president of the Sociedad Unión Sur".

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, also wanted to send a message of heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. "On behalf of the Corporation I preside over, I would like to convey my sincere condolences to the family of Manuel Reyes Fontes, as well as to his friends and colleagues in the municipality of Tías, where he carried out a work recognized by all, and worthy of the award that the Ministry of Justice granted him in 2012 for his dedication, dedication and commitment during more than four decades of service in the judiciary, the Gold Medal of Merit for Justice," said the mayor.
