Lanzarote will have an Island Network Work Platform to promote equality

The Equal Ariadna project is an initiative aimed at investigating, raising awareness and preventing measures against educational segregation and sexual discrimination in the workplace. "Up to 30% difference in remuneration between men and women is occurring in the Canary Islands," commented Inma López, coordinator of Block IV of this initiative.

Equal Ariadna consists of 5 blocks of action, which will attempt to solve these gender imbalances in the workplace. In Lanzarote, block IV is being developed, which consists of the creation of a Networked Work Platform. "The aim is to have all areas of society represented and for this platform to become an information forum where experiences can be shared, which will then be put into practice," said López. This Platform is made up of the Canary Islands Employment Service, FELAPYME, ASOLAN, ADERLAN, ACEPRO, PROMETEO, the Employment and Local Development Agencies of the Cabildo and the Tinajo Town Council and the General Directorate of Educational Planning and Innovation.

"The aim is to remove the barriers for local women and immigrant women. Even from childhood, genders are very differentiated. Regarding the educational reality, there is also a separation between boys and girls"; explained Inma López, who also added that when it comes to finding a job of the same category, the group of women has twice the unemployment rate as men.

Other actions of Equal Ariadna

The other blocks that the Equal Ariadna project will develop in the Canary Islands are: block I, which will analyze the research carried out by the two Canary Islands Universities; block II, which is an awareness campaign aimed at society and the creation of a training manual; III, which consists of a pilot test to insert women into companies where they are under-represented; IV, which is the one being developed in Lanzarote, i.e. the Insular Networked Work Platform; and, finally, block V, which will try to transmit all the conclusions of the work carried out to the key social agents of each territory.
