Lanzarote will celebrate a solidarity race against gender violence

The solidarity race will take place on Saturday and will depart from Ramírez Cerdá Park, in Arrecife. The funds obtained will be entirely destined to Tiemar and Mararía?

Lanzarote to hold charity race against gender violence

To face gender violence and mobilize against it. This is the objective of the first edition of the "Solidarity Race Against Gender Violence in Lanzarote 2013", which will be held this Saturday, the 16th, starting at 5:00 p.m. in Arrecife. The race circuit establishes a circular route of 2.5 kilometers around the historic center of the capital, with departure and arrival at the Ramírez Cerdá Park.

The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Center for Equality and Attention to Women (CIAM), the Arrecife City Council and the Canarian Institute of Equality, collaborate with the logistics and organization of this initiative in favor of the women's associations Tiemar and Mararía.

The Councilor for Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Marciano Acuña, accompanied by the Councilor for Tourism of the capital's Consistory, Rafael Juan González Robayna, and the presidents of both associations, Vicenta Monge and Nieves Rosa Hernández, made a call to the population to join this solidarity cause to "claim in the street that we are all against gender violence."

Acuña encouraged the population "to raise their voice and mobilize" by participating in this sports and awareness-raising activity and rejection of gender violence, "in the company of family members, with boys and girls, friends and even walking with pets". The activity will have, in addition to that playful and vindictive character, the characteristics of a complete sports test for those who want to compete in it, according to the councilor.

During the press conference to present the race, which took place this Tuesday, the presidents of the women's associations hoped that this event "will have continuity" and will consolidate as "a solidarity sports event against gender violence."

The funds obtained from the registrations for this test will be entirely allocated to the Tiemar and Mararía associations for the development of projects and programs to support women victims of gender violence and to continue fighting against the violence that affects both women and minors.
