The Health Services Management of Lanzarote, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, has welcomed 24 new medical and nursing residents who begin their training period in the island's health centers and in the two hospitals on the island.

The event, held in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, was attended by the manager of Health Services, Pablo Eguia; the Councilor for Youth of the island corporation, Aroa Ravelo, the medical director of Primary Care, María Eugenia Perdomo; the head of studies of the Management, Verónica Gutiérrez; as well as the heads and tutors of the different teaching units.

The new resident internal doctors (MIR) will specialize in Geriatrics, Family and Community Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Traumatology. For their part, the resident nurses will develop their training in the areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Geriatrics, Family and Community Nursing and Pediatrics.

Currently, the Lanzarote Health Services Management welcomes a total of 61 residents in training. This stage lasts between four or five years in the case of medicine, depending on the specialty, and two for nursing. In both cases, the training program combines theoretical and practical activities, as well as care and research work.

The Councilor for Youth of the Island Council, Aroa Ravelo, welcomed the event. And later, Pablo Eguia encouraged the new residents "to work to become the best and most capable professionals, as nurses and specialist doctors who guarantee quality health care to patients, without ever forgetting the human side of our work."

For her part, the head of studies, Verónica Gutiérrez, highlighted the importance of making the most of this learning stage, emphasizing the involvement of the teaching team and the collaboration of the services and units of both Primary and Hospital Care in the training process.
