According to data from the National Institute of Statistics, the number of inhabitants has practically doubled in the last 23 years

Lanzarote's population continues to grow and now exceeds 151,000 inhabitants

The population of Lanzarote continues to grow and now exceeds 151,000 inhabitants, according to figures from the National Institute of Statistics published by the Data Center of the Cabildo.

Specifically, as of January 1, 2019, there were 151,072 people registered on the island compared to the 149,183 on the same date in 2018, which represents a growth of 1.26% or, in other words, 1,889 people.

The Data Center of the Cabildo also shows the evolution of the population of Lanzarote since 1996, the year in which there were 77,379 people registered on the island, so that, compared to then, the number of inhabitants has practically doubled.

Compared to a decade ago, the population has increased by 9,134 people, since in 2009 there were 141,938 inhabitants registered on the island, which represents an increase of 6.4%.
