Lanzarote experiences the eighth warmest February of the last 60 years, despite the storms

Throughout February precipitation was "scarce" and only significant rains were recorded due to the passage of a front at the end of the month

Lanzarote, La Graciosa and the rest of the archipelago have experienced the seventh warmest February month of the region (and the eighth of the province) since 1961. This is reflected in the climatological advance report prepared by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The second month of 2026 registered an anomaly of 1.6 degrees more in the average temperature, which stood at 16.5 degrees. Despite these data, the biggest change occurred in the maximums, with 1.7 degrees above the expected value for this time of year, reaching 17.5 degrees.

The Aemet has indicated that thermally the month of February was marked by five "successive pulses" or episodes in which temperatures rose. In total, the anomalies occurred between one degree above up to 2 degrees of positive anomaly.

La Graciosa recorded the fourth highest maximum temperature in the Canary Islands and reached 30.7 degrees last February 22. That same day, 29 degrees were reached at the Aemet station in Los Dolores (Tinajo).

Regarding the highest minimums, La Graciosa registered 17.1 degrees; and Lanzarote, at the Las Vegas station (Tías), 19.5.

Despite the passage of storm Leandro, which meant a drop in temperatures between February 6 and 7; to which another front was added, at the end of the month, with drops of up to 1.5 degrees, temperatures were abnormally high for this time of year.

This rise in temperatures was related to the entry of African continental air masses and with the entry of haze.

Throughout February, precipitation was "scarce" and caused, in large part, by low clouds generated by the trade winds. In this way, the most abundant precipitation of the month occurred with the passage of a DANA, which left up to 18 liters of rain per square meter in Playa Blanca (Yaiza) and 8.4 liters per square meter in Las Vegas (Tías). While no precipitation was detected in La Graciosa.
