The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, indicated this Wednesday in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that the project for the construction of swimming pools in the back of the Marina Lanzarote dock "will not be done" because it is unfeasible.
Valle explained that this impossibility is related to the initiative to expand the Puerto de Naos dock, which is scheduled for 2023: "When we have south weather, there are days when the port is disabled and the ships cannot dock. That is why a new docking line has emerged that leaves from Marina towards Puerto de Naos, which will allow that when said area cannot be used due to the weather, we have an emergency route."
"With this expansion, a part will remain open, so, for security, swimming pools cannot be installed there in the short term, but we would have to see how to adjust it," added the head of the Chamber.
Given this situation, Valle has proposed the Commercial Dock as a possible new location for this bathing area.
The extension, ready in the first half of 2023
Regarding the expansion of the Puerto de Naos dock, the businessman highlighted that this project "has already been tendered and awarded to a Temporary Union of Companies (UTE)", so, as had been set in the summer deadlines, "it will be ready for the spring of 2023 or even before."
This reform will allow "cruise ships and other important vessels to now be located on the Marina side, thus ensuring that tourists enter the city directly, facilitating their comfort."
In Valle's opinion, a remodeling of this type "was necessary, because we are one of the main stopovers in the Canary Islands, a fact that we have to take advantage of and give tourists the resources they deserve."
