The Commission of Immigrant Associations of Lanzarote carried out a food collection over the weekend, in which it managed to raise 1,200 kilos of non-perishable food and 1,325 euros in donations, in addition to personal hygiene products, diapers for babies and breast milk.
According to a statement, the money raised will be used to make a purchase "to complete" and "to be able to deliver equitable lots" to "about 160 homes in situations of extreme vulnerability." The lots will be delivered from this Tuesday, August 11.
This food collection was promoted by Gente Unida Senegal, Asociación Horizontes, Casa de Todos, Venezolanos Unidos, Asociación Enero, Africa Yeah, Mujeres Senegalesas Mbollo Mooy Dollé, Asociación Para el Desarrollo del Colectivo Mauritano en Lanzarote and the Association of French-speaking Residents of Lanzarote.
The Commission of Immigrant Associations of Lanzarote explains that it launched this initiative, which took place at the premises of Calle El Salvador number 19 in Altavista, after "verifying that, since the beginning of the crisis due to Covid-19, more and more homes on the island were left without income or any kind of social assistance." "Many responded to the call of 'Help us to help'", he points out.
The participating groups extend their gratitude "to the neighbors of Lanzarote, to the companies, political groups, personalities and all the other groups that participated in this great campaign of inter-neighborhood solidarity." "United we are stronger," they conclude.
