High school students from IES Tías protest before Education due to the lack of teachers

2nd year high school students from IES Tías have carried out this Friday a protest in front of the Insular Directorate of Education due to the lack of three teachers in the center, two in Physics and one in Chemistry.

"They demand knowledge from us and do not train us" was one of the messages that could be read on the banners carried by the students. "We have not had a single hour of class and it is affecting us for the EBAU. It has already been two months of class that they have not given us," explained a student. Thus, the students have demanded that either they be given classes in the afternoon once a teacher is found to recover all those lost hours or that the grade be weighted for the EBAU.

In the concentration, the insular director of Education, Celeste Callero, attended the students, accompanied by the director of Personnel of the Government of the Canary Islands. "She has told us that the two Physics teachers are already hired, although the Chemistry teacher would be missing," a student from IES Tías told La Voz, who pointed out that Education has also committed to the students receiving classes in the afternoon.

According to this student, Education has explained to them that the problem has been prolonged because "seven teachers who were called refused to come" because it was "a reduced day of nine hours."
