The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition reports that the Microbiological Information System and the National Center for Epidemiology have detected 23 cases of Salmonella enterica serotype Kedougou in Spain during 2008, which, according to the epidemiological study carried out, could be associated with an infant milk from the Sanutri brand. These cases present with gastrointestinal problems that, because they are small children, may require hospitalization.
From the investigation carried out and, as a precautionary measure, the manufacturing company, Nutrition & Santé Iberia SL, has been urged to withdraw 5 batches of Sanutri infant milk from the Confort and Natur ranges.

The implicated batches have been distributed throughout Spain and the company is already proceeding with their withdrawal.
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands advises people who have any containers of batches 708641 and 800052 of Natur 1 or batches 708311 and 801141 of Confort 1 or batch 708321 of Confort 2 (800 g containers) to refrain from consuming them.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate of Public Health, has alerted all Health Areas of the Autonomous Community to proceed with the withdrawal of the indicated products that may be found on the market.
The incident has been communicated through the Rapid Information Exchange System for food alerts (SCIRI) for the knowledge of the rest of the health authorities.
