The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has confirmed a new case of coronavirus in Lanzarote, which would be added to that of the health worker from the Las Cabreras nursing home. The latest official data released this Saturday reflects four cases on the island, but these figures close between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. the day before, so it does not include the positives confirmed later.
Thus, given that this last positive was known on Friday after that time, it will not appear in the Health statistics until Sunday, since they are only updated once a day. However, this case has been made public through the Cabildo due to the special circumstances, which have forced the adoption of measures in the nursing home, which is being evacuated this Saturday to proceed with its disinfection.
As for the group of islands, the latest official data reflects an increase of 61 cases in 24 hours, with the largest increase this time being recorded in Gran Canaria, which has gone from 70 to 97 cases in one day. For its part, Tenerife has also added 25 more positives, now reaching an accumulated total of 219. For its part, Fuerventura has risen to 13, La Palma to 11 (with six new cases) and La Gomera continues with an accumulated total of three. In addition, the first case in El Hierro already appears in the latest official statistics, which was known on the previous day but had not yet entered the count.
There are 334 active cases in the Canary Islands
Subtracting the seven discharges that have been registered so far and the seven deaths that have been confirmed this Saturday, there are currently 334 active cases in the Canary Islands. In addition, 139 people have required hospitalization since the beginning of this crisis and 29 have been admitted to the ICU.
Regarding Lanzarote, until this Friday it had gone a week without adding new cases, but in just over 24 hours it has registered two new positives. However, it should be remembered that the Ministry informs based on the result of the first test that is carried out on the island, and the results of the second test that is carried out in Madrid, at the Carlos III hospital, to confirm or rule out each case are still pending.
