Lanzarote is on yellow alert for strong winds and it is being noticed in many municipalities. Haría is the municipality that has suffered the strongest gust of wind, of 88 kilometers per hour, recorded this Tuesday at 11:50 a.m., according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
In addition, at 11:40 a.m., a maximum wind speed of 62 kilometers per hour was also recorded in this municipality. Despite this, the mayor, José Torres Stinga, has assured that "there have been no problems", although the wind "is very unpleasant".
A similar situation is being experienced in Tinajo, where the maximum gust was recorded at 11:00 a.m. and was 81 kilometers per hour. The mayor, Jesús Machín, has assured on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that, for the moment, no incident has occurred due to the wind.
Where it has also blown forcefully, although more moderately than in Tinajo and Haría, has been in the area of the Lanzarote airport, where the Aemet has installed another station. This one recorded a gust of wind of 59 kilometers per hour at 9:30 a.m., while at 10:00 a.m. the maximum speed was 41 kilometers per hour.
Incidents
At around 2:00 p.m., the firefighters had only registered one incident due to the strong wind. Some tiles from the roof of the IES Teguise have come off and flown away, apparently because they were poorly placed, according to reports from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium.
The firefighters have placed a "security mesh" to prevent detachments and have assured that no schoolchild or passer-by has been injured. "People are more cautious when it is very windy," said the manager of the Consortium, Enrique Espinosa.
The situation is complicated in La Graciosa
As the day progresses, the situation is becoming more complicated on the eighth Canary Island, where many residents have closed doors and windows tightly, especially due to the large amount of dirt that is rising.
During the afternoon, the shipping companies that connect Órzola and La Graciosa have suspended several routes, although they have maintained minimum services. This has been confirmed to La Voz by the company Biosfera Express, which explained that between the two companies they planned to make three trips during the afternoon.
