The family of the Guagime folklore group from Tahíche celebrated the IV Folklore Festival last Friday at 9:00 p.m. at the C.S.C. Santiago El Mayor of Tahíche. On this occasion, it was attended by Timbayba from the municipality of Tinajo, Los Cebolleros who came from the municipality of Gáldar in Gran Canaria, Los Cabuqueros who came from the city of Arucas.

The Timbayba folklore group has been showing our dances and music for more than 25 years throughout the Canary Islands and some provinces of the peninsula. In their performance last Friday, they took a tour of some of the islands, bringing us their music and dances.

Secondly, the members of the Los Cebolleros group from the municipality of Gáldar took to the stage. It consists of 30 members as a touch body with more than 40 years since its foundation by Nicolás Rodríguez. In his long career they have recorded several albums always taking care of the root in their compositions. They have participated in many radio and television programs and are the organizers of two festivals and in their musical repertoire they carry the most traditional folklore of the Canary Islands as their flag.

Together with Los Cebolleros, the dance troupe of the Los Cabuqueros group from the city of Arucas in Gran Canaria shared the stage. This group is made up of about 20 members who filled the stage with their dances, wearing elegant dresses related to different eras, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Los Cabuqueros was formed as a group in 1996 with the commitment to rescue everything related to clothing in the Canary Islands and make it known in each of its performances throughout the Canary archipelago, the peninsula and abroad.

Finally, it was the turn of the festival organizers. Guagime with its 42 members filled the stage with their songs and dances. The Guagime group appeared as a folklore school in 1998 only as a touch group and it was in 2007 when the dance troupe was incorporated.

They are increasingly requested to participate in festivals and pilgrimages and wherever they go they always earn the applause of the public. Their repertoire covers the folklore of all the islands and especially the most traditional folklore of Lanzarote.

Each year, Guagime recognizes the work of those people who work to keep the Canarian traditions alive. This year the distinction with the "Silver Insignia" went to the Lanzarote hat artisan, Ana Mª de León, resident in the town of Los Valles. Ana María has dedicated her whole life to this profession, and even today at the age of 80 she continues with her artisan work.

The public enjoyed a night where cultural traditions, thanks to the effort and hard work of the Guagime family, once again reached the stage, the mayor of Teguise Oswaldo Betancort, the councilor for culture Olivia Duque, the police councilor Miguel Ángel Jiménez, José Dimás Martín and Mª del Mar Gopar also shared the night.
