Telefónica España has complied with the request from the Tías City Council to remove the obsolete telephone booths from Puerto del Carmen. This week a dozen booths were removed on Avenida de las Playas, after the procedures carried out by the Council justifying "the negative impact on the urban environment and their invalidity for communications."
The councilors of Urban Planning and Communication, Ulpiano Calero and Kalinda Pérez, supervised the removal of the booths that were still installed in Puerto del Carmen, "once the state of abandonment, inoperability and occupation of public space was verified".
"This measure frees up pedestrian space and avoids the image of deterioration of the booths, which were abandoned and did not work," they point out from the Consistory, which specifies that "taking into account the universal telecommunications service, two telephone booths have been installed in Puerto del Carmen until December 31 of this year."
“The urban landscape must be useful and in accordance with the needs of the resident and visiting population. The occupation of public spaces with services that do not work makes no sense. In this case, and after the massive presence of new technologies in our society, we achieved a better ordering of the area,” declared Ulpiano Calero.
