Writing/Photos: Sergio Betancort.- A large number of people gathered at the sociocultural center «El Fomento» in Tao to enjoy an abundant and delicious meal, while listening to live music. Last Friday, the «Canarian stall» was organized in the sociocultural center and several folk groups from the Island came to perform their music there. Among others, «El Pavón», «Chimia», «Tao Folk Group» and Gabriel Cubas took the stage. The capacity of the tables was 200 diners and there were neighbors who did not hesitate to stand.
At the end, two members, a man and a woman, were given a gift to thank them for their contribution when preparing the food. The women made the dessert, which consisted of delicious pumpkin torrijas. For their part, the men collaborated in the rest of the banquet.
On Saturday, the Tao Wrestling Club was presented with an exhibition of stick play and the folk performance of the El Jable group. But the highlight came at night, with the performance of the dance group from the «Lanzarote Baila» School. The students of the school gave their best on stage, performing different musical styles. They danced tango, samba, rock&roll and hip-hop. At the end of the show, the president of the sociocultural center gave the Dance School a small detail to thank them for their participation, which they did completely altruistically. The members also wanted to thank the artist Javier Acosta for his presence at the festivities, who performed his songs in the same show as the dancers.
Sunday was the day chosen by the organizers to celebrate the classic chickpea stew for all members. The children were also very present in the celebrations and enjoyed, above all, the traditional water festival. In addition to taking a refreshing shower under the hose, the children invented numerous games under the water. In addition, the members' children were able to play in the «bouncy castles» that their parents had prepared for them.
Sports are also very present in these festivities. During the week, various recreational and sports activities are held, such as the game of balls, both the men's and women's tournaments, the men's envite championship, the treasure hunt with a prize of a television and a DVD, and parchís and puzzle contests for children, young people and adults.
Today the inauguration of a painting exhibition is planned in which several artists from Tao participate. The big day will be tomorrow, Thursday, September 29, the day of San Miguel. To celebrate the special date, a fight has been organized between the Tao Wrestling Club and the Playa Honda Wrestling Club. The mass will be at 7:00 p.m. and then the procession will take place in which the residents of Tao will accompany the image of the saint through the streets of the town. The festivities began on September 20 and will take place until October 2. On the 30th, the performance of the comedian «Lolo, el gomero» is planned and the end of the festivities will be celebrated with an excursion to La Graciosa.
