First lesbian wedding in Lanzarote

Dressed in a simple white suit and a colorful dress for the occasion, Natividad and María were married this Tuesday at Casa Ajei in San Bartolomé, celebrating, precisely on Valentine's Day, the first lesbian wedding hosted by Lanzarote since the Law allowing homosexuals to marry came into force last year.

Three other civil ceremonies of homosexual couples had already been held on the Island, two of them in December, also in San Bartolomé, and another one previously in Arrecife, but in all these events the protagonists were men.

This time, Natividad and María, residents in San Bartolomé but born in Jaén and Seville, respectively, monopolized the attention of guests and the large group of media that gathered at such an acclaimed event. The head of the Justice of the Peace of the municipality was in charge of uniting the two Andalusian women, in a ceremony attended by numerous family members and friends, and which lasted from 1:00 p.m. to 1:25 p.m.

From this Tuesday, this marriage has the same obligations and rights as two contracting parties of the same or different sex.

As soon as they left Casa Ajei, the two brides gave each other the newly married kiss, happiness overwhelmed the couple and rice flew through the air. The kisses and hugs of friends and family denoted that this marriage was something long awaited. After several years of relationship, Natividad and María finally made their dream come true.
