The town of Femés celebrated the 608th anniversary of a July 7, 1406, when the Diocese of Rubicón was founded in those lands, under the patronage of San Marcial. At 7:00 p.m. this Monday, the celebration of the holy mass began, presided over by Juan Antonio Gallego, parish priest of Altavista and Valterra, who was assisted by six fellow priests who came from other parishes. Among them was the owner of the parish of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios, Sixto Álvarez.

The songs for this special celebration were interpreted by the Vocal Group of Yaiza, directed by Professor Nuvi Tavío. The church, which was looking its best, could not accommodate all the parishioners, who gathered to participate and thus honor the Holy Patron.

Once the holy mass was over, the procession began. When the image of San Marcial reached the portico of the church, it was received with cheers and applause. At that moment, the municipal band of Yaiza also gave its greeting, interpreting a composition of its own for the occasion.

The processional retinue set off, presided over by the image of San Marcial del Rubicón. Behind him, followed the priestly clergy, the island, civil and military authorities, intermingled with the parishioners, who also accompanied the Holy Patron during the tour. In addition, the Municipal Band of Yaiza enlivened it with its musical compositions.

Before ending the procession, the Rubicón Folk Group of Yaiza sang and danced the most representative of our Canary land as an offering to San Marcial. Thus, a historic day culminated through the lands of Rubicón.

At 9:00 p.m. in the tent installed in the Femes square, the VIII Edition of the Soloists Meeting was held, which featured the performance of the Janubio and Los Jóvenes Cantadores Parranda, with the interventions of the soloists of the municipality. The fireworks put the finishing touch to a day that made history.
