Established folk groups and young promises of song put music to the La Caleta festivities

Performances, parades, and many songs. This has been the general tone of the festivities of the Sacred Heart of Mary, in Famara, which took place throughout the past week. On the weekend, La Caleta was filled with people from Lanzarote, who did not want to miss the dozens of activities programmed in this coastal town for the occasion.

One of the most crowded shows was the adult Play-back of the Villa de Teguise, which took place last Wednesday, although due to technical problems not all groups could perform. However, those who did take the stage drew multiple applauses from the public. In addition, these shows opened and closed with a parade by Isidro Castellano, who presented the "Opera" wedding bodice collection and the one inspired by César Manrique, "Juguete del Viento" (Wind Toy).

On Thursday, the pier esplanade hosted, as every year, the Canarian Tenderete X Folkloric Encounter in homage to the Sailors of La Caleta. Neighbors and visitors could enjoy the island parrandas with a good treat, at the foot of the image of the Sacred Heart of Mary. Groups such as "Al Golpito", from Teguise, "La Guayabera", from La Vegueta, and "Pal Porrón", born in the malpaís of La Corona, demonstrated their mastery on the stage. At the end of this encounter, the batucada "Menuda Caña" accompanied the public to the alternative zone on the night of its inauguration.

Song Festival

On Friday, the celebration of the V Song Festival, Fescadefa 2009, arrived. The contest was won by Carlos Santana, while Jennifer Hernández and Javier Acosta came in second and third place, respectively. Before the gala began, a group of young women from the municipality, "Las danzarinas de Oriente" (The Dancers of the East), debuted.

Specifically, Javier Acosta, Lucía Queiruga, Jennifer Hernández, Soraya Rodríguez, Davinia Figueroa, Fayna Martín, Carlos Santana, Desiree Rodríguez, and José Martinus, who came from the island of Fuerteventura, participated in this show.

The gala, directed and coordinated by Cristian Guámon, was hosted by Ruiz Rodríguez and Oliva López and also featured the presence on stage of the ballet "Tahíche Dance", which interpreted two choreographies. Guest artists of the stature of Echedey de León, accompanied by the dance group "Liberty Dance" and Almudena Hernández, winner of the contest in the past edition, also participated in the show.

Almudena Hernández also performed a duet with Ayesa Cabrera, while the jury, composed of Héctor Betancor, Ayesa Cabrera, Almudena Hernández, Echedey de León, and Isi Hernández, deliberated.
