The Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has issued the orders establishing the minimum services for tenured and contracted teaching staff, as well as for general administration and service personnel assigned to this department, due to the strike called for October 15, 2025.
The first of these, Order of October 9, 2025, responds to the call made by the trade unions Trade Union Confederation of Workers' Commissions (CCOO) and Trade Union Confederation of the General Union of Workers and Workers (UGT) for October 15, 2025, with stoppages of two hours per shift, from 2:00 to 4:00 in the night shift, from 10:00 to 12:00 in the morning shift, and from 17:00 to 19:00 in the afternoon shift.
The second order, meanwhile, dated October 10, 2025, regulates the minimum services in response to the strike called by the Trade Union of Grassroots Workers' Commissions (co.bas), the Unified Union of Workers Solidaridad Obrera, Alternativa Sindical de Clase (ASC), and the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), also for the same date, beginning at 00:00 and ending at 23:59 hours.
Both orders, which can now be consulted on the website of the Department of Education, and which will also be published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC), establish the minimum services that must be guaranteed during the strike day on October 15.
In secondary education institutes (IES), integrated vocational training centers (CIFP), compulsory education centers (CEO), adult education centers (CEPA), distance education centers (CEAD), maritime-fishing vocational training institutes (IFPMP), and art schools (EA), the presence of a managerial position and a teacher is established for every nine groups, ten groups in the case of the twenty-four-hour strike.
In official language schools (EOI) and music conservatories, one management position is designated as a minimum service. In early childhood and primary education centers (CEIP), groups of rural schools (CER), and classrooms attached to other centers, the presence of one management position and one teacher for every six groups is required.
Finally, regarding specific school residences, a management position and twenty-five percent of the teaching staff are established as minimum services, while in special education centers (CEE), the minimum will be one management position and fifty percent of the staff members.
