What are the names that are most repeated in Canarias?

We tell you which are the names that the Canarians chose for their babies in 2024

Mateo and Sofía were again the most recurrent names among newborns in the Canary Islands in 2024, last year reviewed by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac).

Among males, the name Mateo has been parents' favorite for their babies since 2019, and among females, Sofía chains her second consecutive year at the top of the podium.

Thiago, Liam, Leo, Hugo, Enzo, Gael, Dylan, Noah, Diego, Lucas, Pablo, Martín, Gabriel, Rodrigo and Álvaro are, in this order, other names that most frequently appeared in birth certificates in 2024.

Among girls, stood out, also in this order, Martina, Valeria, Valentina, Olivia, Lucía, Chloe, Emma, Alma, Gara, Jimena, Mía, Alana, Zoe, Alaia, Lía, Laia and María.

 

Only in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura the population grew
 

2024 was a year in which 5,846 more people died in Canarias than were born, consolidating the negative natural growth of the last seven years in the archipelago.

By islands, the natural growth was negative in all except Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where the population grew by 278 and 187 people, respectively.

In Gran Canaria (-2,848 people), Tenerife (-2,920), La Palma (-415), La Gomera (-89) and El Hierro (-39) fewer people were born than died.
