The NGO Emergencias y Rescate en Lanzarote (Emerlan) rescued the

last Saturday a deer that had escaped and had

entered the water on the beach of Los Pocillos, in the municipality of

Tías. A lifeguard from this beach, located in Puerto del Carmen, alerted

the presence of a large animal that was on

the shore, according to Emerlan in a statement.

Shortly after receiving this notice, Emerlan staff approached with a

zodiac-type boat to this beach and verified that, about 20 meters from

the coast, a deer was trying to swim. The lifeguard, meanwhile, wanted to capture

the animal by using a rope for which he had to chase it swimming

for a long stretch. Meanwhile, the emergency teams cut off the escape route of

the animal by sea with the boat to redirect its course towards land, where capture was easier to achieve.

After a complicated task due to the bravery and strength of the animal, which avoided

contact at all times swimming or jumping when the depth

allowed, and with the help of numerous bathers and onlookers who crowded on the beach, the deer was finally caught and moved to a safe area on the coast.

The Emerlan service ended at 3:30 p.m.
