For the twelfth time, the Timbayba Musical Cultural Group presents its traditional popular music festival framed within the San Roque festivities of the town of Tinajo.
In this edition, in addition to the organizing group, the groups "Volcano", from the island of Lanzarote, and "Arinegua", from the island of Gran Canaria, will take the stage of the Antigua Sociedad.
"It is an unavoidable date with the town of Tinajo and with people willing to enjoy music, dances of the land and learn about folkloric traditions from other regions," says the group. The festival has featured in its various editions groups such as Los Campesinos, the Tetir Folkloric Group, El Pavón, the soloist Luis Morera and the timple player Domingo Rodríguez "El Colorao", among others.
More than two decades of history
Timbayba was born in 1986 with the Municipal School, and currently "enjoys a very good quarry", according to its members on Radio Lanzarote.
For the group, this festival is held "with all the love in the world both for us and for the public, since without an audience in the room it would not go ahead". "More and more people are coming, not only from the town but from all over Lanzarote," say Zebensuy Saavedra and Chalo Martín, members of Timbayba.
Now, the group is immersed in the realization of its festival. "We have been working on the dance, the touch and the singing for a few weeks," said Chalo Martín.
Regarding the groups invited to this year's festival, Volcano and Arinegua, Zebensuy Saavedra and Chalo Martín highlight that "Arinegua is a group established in 2003, but has been working since 1999. It has done an important work of rescuing dance, touch and clothing". In addition, "it has already released a CD and a DVD with its dances," they add.
As for Volcano, "it is a band that performs instrumental music with a timple base. They have been working for several years, they are very recognized people in Lanzarote such as Willy Morales, Roberto Gil, José Vicente Pérez, Suso Cabrera or Acorán Ramos".
For the organization of the twelfth edition of the Timbayba Festival, the group needed several supports in this current context of economic crisis. "We are 40 members and we all lend a hand. The City Council of Tinajo has helped us a lot, and we have also raised funds from our performances," said Martín.
