The organization of the 1st 3x3 Tournament City of Arrecife Memorial Marcial Martín Rodríguez, by the entity s3x3.com, has responded to the criticisms launched by the socialist councilor Roy González, whom they accuse of “lying” and using sports “to do political harm.”

The entity points out that González “apologizes to the family without having spoken to them” and recalls that Marcial Martín's relatives were “grateful” for the tournament and “unaware of the ghosts that inhabit the socialist councilor's daily life.”

Regarding the controversy of the trophies with images of the mayor and the sports councilor, the organization clarifies that it was a “unilateral” decision by the company in charge of manufacturing them, “without prior knowledge of either the City Council or the organizers.” They assure that, despite this, delivery was prioritized to avoid delaying the competition.

They also criticize that González “ignores” the rest of the recognitions, such as the diplomas given in inclusive basketball or the tribute plaque to the former player's family.

The organization defends that the tournament was “a real success”, with wide participation of teams from the island and a “meaningful tribute” to Marcial Martín Rodríguez.
