Consumer associations Ucopan and Acogran will take on a claim against large stores because they "cancel and erase" other products to favor the purchase of their own brands. This is a measure that currently "does not have legal backing", according to the presidents of both organizations, but is "necessary to put a stop to the hypermarkets' imposition on the offer sought by the consumer".
"We are captives of the large chains that eliminate original products from the shelves or force companies to assume abusive burdens when displaying their products", says the president of the Consumer Association of Gran Canaria (Acogran), José Manuel Quesada, who is concerned that in the Canary Islands, due to the island condition, this dependence is greater.
Specifically, the president of the Consumer Union of Las Palmas (Uconpa), Germán Hernández, details that the yogurt, rice and noodle brands are the most affected by the stores' own brands.
The statements of the consumer representatives took place on Friday in the capital of Gran Canaria during the management review of the two organizations coinciding with the Consumer Day events.
