A cold storm will bring rains, storms, and strong wind in Lanzarote this week

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts the arrival of rains in Lanzarote starting this Tuesday. The island expects the arrival of storms and winds with very strong gusts also starting on Wednesday. The rains and strong winds will also continue on Thursday.

The Aemet forecast shows that from Tuesday the weather will be marked by cloudy skies with a low possibility of some weak precipitation, as well as, light haze at altitude until the afternoon. The wind will be light from the north, turning to west, then to southwest after midday and finally increasing to moderate at the end of the day. This day storms are expected to occur in the municipality of Teguise.

However, facing Wednesday, the skies will continue to present cloudy intervals in Lanzarote. The rains will be weak to moderate, more persistent in summit areas, mid-slopes of the western face and northwestern areas. At this point, it is not ruled out that the rains may fall in the form of a downpour.

Despite the arrival of the rains, the temperatures will be will be in slight rise in the eastern islands during Wednesday. The wind will then be from the west, moderate with strong intervals in the afternoon in low areas, being strong in mid-slopes and summits. At the same time, there will be very strong gusts in high areas and mid-slopes in the interior of Lanzarote.

Looking ahead to Thursday, Aemet also expects cloudy skies in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, with moderate rains, which may be especially persistent in summit areas, as well as on the southwest and northwest slopes, without ruling out locally strong showers. 

This March 19, minimums are expected to have few changes and maximums to be in a slight to moderate decrease. Meanwhile, the wind will be from the southwest, moderate with strong intervals in the afternoon in low areas, being strong in mid-altitudes and summits. In addition, very strong gusts are again expected in inland areas of Lanzarote.

For the moment, Aemet has not established any warning in the Canary Islands due to the passage of this storm.
