The Haría City Council has declared César Manrique an Adopted Son of the municipality during an extraordinary plenary session that took place this Friday, August 16, at 1:30 p.m. in the El Aljibe Room.

It was a "collective and participatory" event attended by a large audience. Also attending were his two siblings, Juana and Carlos Manrique, as well as the President of the FCM, José Juan Ramírez. During the event, the corresponding distinctions were presented, as established in the Special Regulations of Honors and Distinctions of the Consistory.

Among the authorities who attended the event were the President of the Government, Paulino Rivero, the Minister of the Presidency, Manuel Hernández Spínola, the President of the Cabildo, Pedro Sanginés, the island secretary of the Psoe, Loly Corujo, and other public officials from the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo, and other city councils.

In this way, "a debt that the northern municipality had with the brilliant artist from Lanzarote, who spent his last years of life in the house that will be opened to the public, imminently, by the César Manrique Foundation" will be settled.

Thus begins a new stage for Haría, the beginning of what will be known as the "Manrique Route", which will try to bring neighbors and visitors closer to the most intimate part of the creator, the architect of such emblematic places in the north of the island as Los Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Río, along with other constructions that bear his unmistakable stamp.
