The Tenerife multiplexes hosted an in-person gala of the Cinedfest 8 festival, to present the awards for the 2020/2021 film course in the Primary category, which featured 38 short films recorded by Canary Islands students.
María Isabel Bello, Island Director of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, was responsible for announcing that "The Door" is the work most valued by the jury in the Primary category. "The council is committed to this festival because it awakens the imagination of the students," she commented. "The Door", from CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo (Lanzarote) revolves around a door, which leads to time jumps. Imaginative visual piece.
"Cinedfest is amazing and I encourage everyone to participate in this educational festival," said Alfonso López, a teacher at the winning center. "This festival is an opportunity to develop all our creativity," added a student. The Lanzarote center CEIP Capellanía del Yágabo also won the award for best horror short film: "The Commission".
The morning gala, presented by journalist Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, began at 11:00 a.m. and lasted for two and a half hours. The interventions of students, teachers and representatives of the institutions followed one another.
"I congratulate all the participants for their creativity and their values. We need more cinema in the classrooms. We need more Cinedfest," said Federico J. Delgado (Territorial Director of Tenerife of the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, when presenting the award to the Educational Center at CEIP Ernesto Castro Fariña (Tenerife).
Olaia Morán Ramírez, Councilor for Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, announced that "An eye for an eye", from CEIP Argana Alta (Lanzarote) won the award for best comedy.
For its part, CEIP Adolfo Topham won the Animation award for "The Timanfaya Devil"
Winners
The second Primary prize went to "The Exam", from CEIP La Rosa-Camino Viejo (La Palma), a comedy in which a group of students plan to get hold of an exam before the scheduled date.
In the direction category, the award was given ex aequo to Lucía Ramírez Santana for "They don't exist", from CEIP La Paredilla (Gran Canaria) and to Sandra Mesa Díaz for "Ainhoa", from CEIP Ernesto Castro Fariñas (Tenerife).
While in the script category there was also a tie between the 5th A group from (Gran Canaria), for their work "VPC arrives at school", and the 3rd B group from CEIP Morro Jable (Fuerteventura) for "Trip to Mars".
In the interpretation section, the awards went to Ibai de Lara Salgado for "Do you see it?", from CEIP La Laguna (La Palma) and to Paula Armas González for "Never without you", from CEIP Miguel de Cervantes (Tenerife).

The eighth edition of Cinedfest has become a reality thanks to the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Ministry of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Ministry of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Area of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the City Council of La Laguna, the Universidad del Atlántico Medio, the Fundación SGAE and the Fundación DISA.
