CCOO demonstrated this Wednesday, May 1st, on Calle Real in Arrecife, under the slogan 'People First', to demand the right to decent employment on the occasion of Labor Day.
"We have been in a very turbulent moment with the elections, where many have spoken of patriotism and the Constitution, and we demand that the Spanish Constitution also says that we have the right to decent housing, stable and well-paid employment, quality public services, sufficient social benefits, and new formulas in search of employment and specific training to guarantee decent employment," said the general secretary of CCOO Lanzarote, Vanesa Frahija.
The union leader also made a call for unity among the unions in the face of their division on this May 1st. "We hope that it will be possible in other years, especially for the workers of the island who well deserve that there be unity of struggle, of demand. And not only the workers, but also those who are not lucky enough to have the Spanish Constitution and the right to decent and stable employment fulfilled," she pointed out.
The island secretary of the PSOE and candidate for the Cabildo, Loli Corujo, as well as the mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, the new elected deputy of the PSOE, Ariagona González, and the councilor of the Cabildo and socialist candidate for the Mayor of Teguise, Marcos Bergaz, were present at the CCOO concentration. Prior to the demonstration on Calle Real, CCOO held a workers' assembly.
