The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Canary Islands Government, headed by Migdalia Machín, has notified this December 18 the first definitive resolution of the university scholarship call corresponding to the 2025/2026 academic year, with a total amount of 3,609,139.78 euros and 3,797 applications processed, out of a total of 10,446 submitted.
With this first definitive resolution, the call enters a key phase of development. In this context, Machín pointed out that "moving forward with the resolution from the beginning of the course responds to a management oriented towards optimizing the procedure, streamlining its processing, and improving its development".
In this phase, 1,204 applications have been granted. By academic fields, 1,639 applications corresponding to the University of La Laguna have been processed, 1,571 to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and 587 to students pursuing studies in other higher education centers. The counselor pointed out that "the homogeneous application of criteria allows for a coherent treatment of files throughout the university system."
The amount granted in Annex I amounts to 2,174,121.54 euros, which represents an increase of 716,509.60 euros compared to the first definitive resolution of the previous academic year. The grants awarded are distributed in amounts linked to residence, transport, income, functional diversity, and tuition fees, in accordance with the criteria established in the call for applications.
By academic centers, the total amount granted in this first definitive resolution is distributed as follows: 1,035,240.07 euros for the University of La Laguna, 715,608.79 euros for the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and 423,272.68 euros for students pursuing studies at other higher education institutions. Of this amount, 1,447,446.68 euros will be paid directly to the beneficiaries, while 726,674.86 euros correspond to the payment of tuition fees to public centers of the Canarian university system
The management of the call is carried out through the Directorate General of Universities and Research, which continues with the analysis of pending files. At this moment, 6,649 applications remain in processing, representing 63.65% of the total, and an estimated advance of 1,435,018.24 euros has been foreseen to cover tuition fees corresponding to unresolved files. This first definitive resolution does not include the academic excellence modality, which will be the subject of a separate resolution as provided for in the call.
