Canal Gestión Lanzarote and the Water Consortium of Lanzarote have reported that this Thursday, May 23, there will be cuts in the supply of drinking water in a large part of the towns of Lanzarote. According to the press release issued this Tuesday, this interruption of supply is due to "the improvement works" carried out by Endesa at the Díaz Rijo Desalination Plant.

The interruption of the electrical supply is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Canal Gestión has assured that "this situation will force the suspension of drinking water production in the three Arrecife water treatment plants and other vital infrastructures for the distribution system such as the pumping that leads the product water to the main storage tanks". Specifically, and according to the forecasts made, about 23,000 m³ will no longer be distributed that day, approximately one third of the usual daily production.

Canal Gestión Lanzarote and the Water Consortium have coordinated a maneuver plan that aims to minimize the impact that the aforementioned energy cut will cause on service users, trying to carry out a service planning that allows, at least, that rural areas such as the municipalities of Haría and Tinajo can have the supply that is almost daily affected by other types of interruptions.

Depending on this planning, the following service cuts that will begin to take effect from 11:00 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22, are communicated. The affected areas and locations are:

  • In Arrecife: Central area and Arrecife center that includes, among other areas, the commercial area and neighborhoods such as Argana Alta, Argana Baja, Altavista, Titerroy or Las Salinas, although other points of the capital may be affected.
  •  In Tías: Tías town, Conil, La Asomada, Mácher and Camino de Masdache. And in Puerto del Carmen, the areas of Matagorda, Los Pocillos and a part of the central Avenue between the Hotel San Antonio and Playa Grande, approximately, will be affected.
  • In Yaiza: Yaiza town and Uga.
  • In San Bartolomé: San Bartolomé town
  • In Teguise: La Villa, Tao, Tiagua, Muñique, Caleta Caballo, Soo, Famara, Nazaret, Tahíche alto (except for the area of the prison and the lower part), Los Valles, El Mojón, Guatiza and Los Cocoteros
  • In Haría: Punta Mujeres and Arrieta.

The cuts in the supplies of the numbered areas will begin to be made from midnight tomorrow, Wednesday, progressively and itis not expected that the service can be restored until mid-afternoon on Thursday, May 23, also progressively and as long as there is no incident, according to Canal Gestión. This situation will directly affect some 24,200 service subscribers.

Canal Gestión and the Water Consortium have assured that "given the above, and understanding the inconveniences that this situation, beyond the control of the two entities, may cause, the population is recommended to take preventive measures" such as:

  • Water saving: Use water responsibly and moderately.
  • Storage: If possible, try to store enough water during the previous hours in private tanks to cover basic needs during the interruption period.
  • Planning: Organize your daily activities taking into account the possible lack of water supply.

From Canal Gestión Lanzarote and the Water Consortium of Lanzarote we regret the inconvenience that this situation may cause and we thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
